Power, Public Policy, and Living Conditions: The Social Determinants of Oral Health.
Canadians occupying vulnerable social and economic locations in society are more likely to experience problematic oral health. The sources of these inequalities in oral health can be traced to the public policies that inequitably distribute economic and social resources amongst different groups. These public policies are themselves shaped by differences in political and economic power amongst various societal sectors such as the corporate community, the labour movement and civil society.
In this presentation, these concepts are illustrated and means of improving the oral health of all Canadian are presented. York University Professor Dennis Raphael will be speaking.
